Keywords are, simply put, the SEO fuel. All the efforts put in to fine-tune your website for top rankings on Search Engines will not pay-off if the targeted keyword is not right. The key here is to use most relevant and important keywords in different parts of the website. Instead of using all keywords at once, it is advisable to use the keywords in several portions on your website. Higher relevance is given to certain areas of the HTML documents by various search engines.

Choosing the right keyword is the first and the most critical step of any SEO Campaign.

Following are the Best Practices for how to use your keywords:

In the TITLE tag – Search results always shows the title tag as your page title. The Title must be short and precise, say 6-12 words. The Keyword can be anywhere in the tag but preferably near the beginning.

In anchor text – Anchor text with keyword focus from external links is an important factor. Inbound links are considered positive not only for the site but for the keyword as well.

In headings – The Keywords placed on the heading in H1 is an important factor but the page should have actual text relevant to the keyword. Try to keep the heading precise (7-10 words). It is good to have the keyword as the first word of the heading.

In Domain Name – Domain names incorporating vital keywords is a very important factor.

In URL – Helps a lot to rank well but keyword should be in the other parts of the document. It should not be over optimized else you might be penalized.

Density – It is a measure to check the relevance of the web content. Keep less than 10% keyword density. Upto 7-8% for targeted 2-3 keywords and 1-2% for minor or secondary keywords on a page.

In the beginning of the document – It is a good practice to have the keyword in first 25-50 words of the document. Be it a table or a paragraph, try to keep it in the beginning of the document.

In Alt Tags – Label images on your page with ALT/TITLE tag filled with some keywords as spiders do read these tags.

In other Headlines – It is a good practice to have the keywords in other headlines (h2 – h6).

In Meta Tags – Yahoo and Bing still rely on them, Google does not. Having these tags properly filled will not harm, so just do it.

Proximity – It is the closeness between the 2 or more keywords. The closer the keywords the more likely it is to rank higher. It is best to have the keywords one after the other i.e. with no words in between them. Eg : “discount perfume” is better than “discount on perfume”. In Image names – Eg : Perfume.jpg – Good to have keywords in images names.

Secondary Keywords – Targeting and optimizing secondary keywords can be beneficial as they might have a lot less competition than the most popular keywords. Eg: discount Calvin Klien perfumes will have a lot less hits and a better targeted traffic.

Synonyms – Using synonyms on web pages is good as Search Engines have algorithms to take in to consideration synonyms for Keyword match and ranking especially for sites in English but it is not taken into account for many other languages. For instance, in the perfume site, “fragrance” is a synonym, Include synonyms on the page but do not rush to optimize every synonym.

Worst Practices:

Misspellings – Spelling mistakes do not make a good impression. If you know your target keywords have popular misspellings, you might want to optimize them and they can get you more traffic. But it’s better if you do not misspell. However, if you want popular misspellings, do them in Meta Tags.

Dilution – Excessive unrelated keyword optimization will affect performance of all keywords. Yes! even the major ones will be lost.

Stuffing – Keyword density of more than 10% is keyword stuffing and puts you at risk by to get banned by Search Engines.

Thus, a well deployed Keyword helps in bringing qualified traffic to your site leading to higher sales, by being focused and targeting specific search terms. We hope you like our posts. Do not forget to subscribe to our feed in order to stay updated with our stories & news in SEO World.

If you've been using Google's AdSense on your blog you obviously feel the need to somehow generate even more traffic to your blog website, which in turn would translate to more AdSense clicks and a higher income.

But who do you do this? Well, the major way you'll get visitors to see your blog (other then using AdWords, which is encouraged as well) is to use some techniques to have search engines send more and more users towards your blog, by ranking high in search results for your topics of interest.

This is a technique, better known as search-engine optimization or simply SEO. So here are a bunch of tips that can come handy under every amateur or professional optimizer's belt.

The first thing you need to take care of is the actual source code and layout of your blog. This has to be kept as simple as possible. The problem comes when AdSense and the search engines themselves begin to have troubles in extracting the most relevant keywords on your site because of a too complex layout.

Secondly, try to have each one of your blog pages target only one specific topic. This way it is a lot easier for them to get indexed properly and for the AdSense ads to be consistent with the content of the blog itself.

Also, try not to include too many hyperlinks in your page as well. This also means you should try not to use too many AdSense ads on your page either one or two boxes is all you need.

If there are certain keywords you wish to target, make sure the word you wish to target is present in the blog title, in the first paragraphs of your post as well as in the name of the page. While you're at it you might want to ensure the word springs up in the page's last paragraphs.

And of course, it's very important for your content to have original and compelling content. How do you do this? Well the easiest way to do it is to find something you're really passionate about. That way, providing you give it a lot of effort you're bound to have a great page quite fast.

If the content you use in your blog is in the public domain (which is highly discouraged) make sure that you at least give it an original title, and add an opening and a closing paragraph of your own.

This takes a little while, but if, after waiting, you still can't find your page near the top, you should try rewriting your title and your first and last paragraphs. It doesn't take much, often just changing a few words will give you the right results to stay ahead of teh competition.

And of, course there's the use of keyword tools that may aid you in finding some good keywords to include on your blog's theme that will drive visitors to your blog more and more.

So those are about the basic techniques in search engine optimization. You can find a lot of computer tools to aid you in doing this, and of course, Google is a great place to search for this.

In the end, you'll find that SEO is a complex topic, and entire books have been written on the topic as well. You might find that you have a lot of optimization you need to do in order to get more and more visitors to your site and clicking those precious AdSense banners.

Keywords, also known as search terms, are the words or phrases that people enter into search engines to find websites about or related to that term. To attract more visitors to your page, you need to know which keywords people are using to find similar websites, and optimize your website for these keywords. If a key search phrase is not in at least one of your pages, the search engine will not rank your page highly for that phrase, therefore you are missing out on all the potential traffic the search phrase generates.

To help achieve high ranking on search engines, you need to optimize the keyword content of your web pages. There are several different areas in your webpages where keywords should be placed, not just in the META KEYWORD tag. The keywords need to be used effectively throughout the site, and good rankings can be obtained without resorting to spammy techniques, such as listing keywords at the bottom of a page in a white font on a page with a white background.

Most search engines place a large emphasis on the actual text on a web page. As a result, the way that the text on a page is constructed plays an important role in determining the way engines index your site. When building a web site it is important to ensure that your pages contain as much relevant text as possible. Search engines gather keywords from your page contents, and rank your web page based on the keyword density. Keyword density is number of times a word or phrase is counted on a web page. The keywords can appear in the page title, links, content, descriptions and headings.

The Keyword Research section of the manual explains how to use the keyword tools to build up a list of keywords to implement into your site. The keyword research step of SEO needs to be repeated regularly to ensure that your site is consistently optimized for the most popular keywords.

Basic steps in keyword research:

  1. Make a list of the major (fundamental) words and phrases related to your business or subject. (You can add the keywords to a project in the Keyword manager)

  2. Search for these words in the Keyword manager or the Search term suggestion tool to obtain more related keywords. The Keyword discovery spell function can help find common keyword misspellings. Include both singular and plural terms and add local/geographical descriptions to help accurately target traffic. eg. Melbourne seafood restaurant

  3. Filter the new keywords. Remove any keywords that are not related to your business/subject or keywords that relate to products that you don't offer. Keywords with only a few searches may not be worth targeting, however single keywords that are very popular, may not end up producing much traffic due to the large amount of competition for the keyword. Most users begin searching with a single keyword, but gradually add more words to help refine the search results.(see the next step to help determine competition).

If you are gathering keywords for PPC, you should collect as many keywords as possible and look for long-tail keywords, which are keywords that don't have a large number of searches and are much less competitive. Otherwise you will tend to spend a large amount of money trying to outbid all your competitiors.

  4. Analyze the keywords. The Analyze function in the Keyword manager can display various metrics to help guage a keyword's effectiveness. The Seasonal trends graph can also help predict keyword traffic.

  5. Integrate the keywords into your website. The Site optimization section of the manual explains how and where to integrate the keywords.

Adjust Your Monetization Strategy

altBy Aaron Wall

Some areas of the economy are going well still, but many are crumbling.

If you are a publisher that monetizes via advertising one way to make up for lost earnings is to add more ad units to a page, but if something is not working then doing more of it is probably a bad solution for fixing the problem.

If ad prices drop then adding more irrelevant and cheaper ads to the site will not do much for increasing your current revenue, and it might sacrifice some of your future revenue!

Another option is to show fewer ads to create a better user experience.

Under-monetize today to make your site look more appealing, increase usability, be more linkworthy, and steal market-share from larger competitors.

If the ad market goes too far out of whack you can always move from being an ad seller to becoming a strategic ad buyer.

If you gain enough marketshare to tread water while competing businesses and business models collapse then you are doing well, while positioning yourself nicely for the rebound.

Then when the market turns up you can place more ads on your site and monetize aggressively while it is actually worth doing so. Then you would have higher monetization * better rankings & traffic * more ad units per page, with each input compounding the earning power of the next.

On some sites we only monetize key pages while making others white as snow easy to link at.

For new sites I skip the ads until the site gets some links, starts ranking and has a solid traffic stream. I like to call this line of thinking conditional advertising, where you adjust your monetization strategy based on your site's market position and the condition of the market.

Buy low. Sell high. :)

There are some tactics that you should avoid for good but let me representation you at primitive one type of site to head off. These are sites that do reviews or voting of other sites. The complication with this is that there is a good-ole boy club in effect as the maintainers or admins. If you do not qualify beneath their perceiving forasmuch as you are deemed to be a spammer and your site is canceled from the review process.Pooh-pooh the fact that your site is not a SPAM site.

I caught wind of this site from a forum and fast cleaned up on the verity that there were troubles with this site being a good-ole boy club.It seems their network of users quietly promote their own internet sites while shutting down sites from being reexamined by the average clan of veracious members.

So how did I ultimate this.Well, I have tuned in two converted websites and both were deleted partially as briskly as they were with it.The cause for the first one was never requited. The second one was described as being a SPAM site, which was from the truth but reasonably a SEO Information site with AdSense; clearly not spam.

So obviously, this kind of site is an accepted practice for getting people to review other kinds of site so long as they do not struggle with the inner circles internet sites. This is kind of sad that labeling at this level is so out there and out of control.

So I am not publishing this as a personal flame against them but rather as a warning for all of the compliant users out there.Be careful that there are web sites out there that will try to break your internet site down in this kind of environs. This Article From : Busby SEO Test
